The central province of Thua Thien Hue has attracted US$1.05 billion worth foreign direct investment so far this year to more than double its overall FDI amount.
The 11 new projects committed this year, in fact, take the cumulative foreign investment in the central province to $1.75 billion and the number of projects to 66.
According to local investment officials, most foreign investment this year is in cement, mining, transport, hotels and resorts, and restaurants.
Very few projects involve agriculture, forestry, processing farm and forestry products or fisheries.
Among the major projects is the Nam A Lang Co tourist complex to be developed by Korean company Nam-A D&C at a cost of $481.7 million. The 317-hectare complex in Phu Loc District will have 1,012 villas, nine hotels with 600 rooms, an international-standard 18-hole golf course, wharves, and recreational facilities. It will be completed by the end of 2016.
Other projects include the foreign-invested Lt Luks Viet Nam Cement Company which has spent $ 130 million to install a new production line, its fifth, with a daily capacity of 5,000 tonnes of clinker.
It increases the company's annual cement capacity to 4 million tonnes.
