Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged Kien Giang Province authorities to accelerate a plan to turn Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island, into a major tourism destination.
At his working session with Kien Giang authorities yesterday, Dung said the master plan to develop the island has moving slowly after four years.
He asked the Ministry of Construction to coordinate with Mekong Delta province to hire foreign experts to advise on the plan.
He urged relevant ministries to focus investment on constructing main roads on the island. The Phu Quoc International Airport and An Thoi seaport must be completed on schedule and more international air routes should be opened to thee island, the PM said.
Phu Quoc island is also known as “Dao Ngoc” (Pearl Island) for its famous cultured pearls.
